AI Election - Algorithm Style
At the end of last week, an article came out that introduces a hypothetical scenario of how an AI system called "Clogger" could impact US elections. This tool, described as a "political campaign in a black box," would have the singular objective of maximizing the chances that its candidate wins the election. Clogger would use advanced AI and machine learning techniques to manipulate behavior and micro-target voters with personalized messages. This system could generate countless unique messages, use reinforcement learning to refine its strategy, and evolve its messaging based on individual responses over time.
This system may not exist in this form today, but each piece of the system is an existing part of political messaging/campaign strategy and likely has a tool which exists or is in development to maximize effectiveness. Combined as in this hypothetical situation is a likely outcome and not in the far-off future. I see the first iterations of this tech hitting before the end of the 2024 election.
